PROJECT BRIEF
During the workshop, Space for Encounters: Meetings, Happenings and Outputs in Arts Mediation, a closed workshop held at the Kochi Biennale, the participants developed various interactive tools to provide a more engaging experience to the visitors of an exhibition. The Kochi Muziris Biennale Foundation KMBF decided to convert the tools developed by them into a handbook to be distributed in an open source format all over the world.
Given the open-source format of the toolkit, the team at Kahani Designworks conceived the publication as an A5 size folder with simple, easy to understand instructions, complete with all templates required for a particular activity. The folder format of the publication allowed for increased flexibility and encouraged users to add to the existing tools, converting it into an archive of workshops conducted by mediators.
ICON DESIGN AND VISUAL LANGUAGE

The final design consisted of an A5 ring binder containing loose sheets, each talking about one art mediation tool. This approach led to an interactive and user-friendly design that allowed users to easily take apart elements of the folder and reassemble them as required. The publication was printed in a budget friendly combination of two colours.
Functionality came to the forefront of the project- each tool was edited to fit into ONE card and was followed by templates required for each activity. The toolkit was highly flexible and could be taken apart and reassembled according to the user’s needs.
