The second year students at the MA Service Design course at the Royal College of Art decided to undertake a radical branding project for the course. They realised that the course didn't have a distinct identity that could convey what we stand for uniformly to students, partners and aspiring students. They commissioned me as the designer for the project and partner with them on the project. The team started out by conducting co-creation workshops with students and staff to look into how they envisioned the identity.

PROJECT BRIEF:
PROJECT BRIEF:
We realised that there were certain keywords that participants associated with Service Design which were equally relevant. We realised that there is not one way to depict Service Design. We set out a requirement that the identity must be dynamic, flexible and constantly evolving.

OVERVIEW:
As Service Design practitioners, a lot of our tools are modular. Flexibility is crucial to our way of thinking. We wanted the identity to highlight these aspects to create a logo that is bold, adaptable and ever-evolving. I created a Service Design Visual Vocabulary based on workshop findings.
The idea was to make this an ever evolving repository that each cohort is free to add to based on their values. When we look back in a few years, we will see the evolution of Service Design as a course and field of study.
